Deck lid Pull Down Motor  Pulls the deck, or trunk lid, down electrically and latches it. It's most often located against the back wall of the trunk in most applications.

Differential Assembly (Front)  The front differential allows the front wheels to rotate at different speeds to facilitate turning, and on front wheel drive cars is normally inside the "transaxle" or transmission/axle housing assembly. On a four-wheel drive vehicle it's easily recognizable as the large bulge in the front axle.

Differential Assembly (Rear)  The rear differential allows the rear wheels to rotate at different speeds to facilitate turning. It's the large bulge in the center of the rear axle.

Differential Case  The housing that protects the differential gears. On rear wheel drives it's the large bulge in the rear axle. On Four-wheel drive vehicles there will be one of these bulges in the front axle as well. On front wheel drive cars, it's normally a part of the transaxle assembly.

Distributor  The distributor is responsible for "distributing" the spark from the coil to each of the spark plugs. It can be identified by its appearance (often it looks like a spider), or by tracing the spark plug leads back to their source.

Door Assembly (Front)  The front door and the totality of the associated glass and hardware, including the door hinges, handles, window regulators and motors, etc.

Door Assembly (Rear or Back)  The rear doors and the totality of the associated glass and hardware, including the door hinges, handles, window regulators and motors, etc.

Door Glass (Front)  The glass portion(s) of the front door, or as they're normally called, the windows. They may be opened manually or electrically. The smaller, normally triangular windows installed in the door are known as "vent" windows.

Door Glass (Rear)  The glass portion(s) of the rear door, or as they're normally called, the windows. They may be opened manually or electrically. The smaller, normally triangular windows installed in the door are known as "vent" windows.

Door Handle (Inside)  The inside door handle, used for opening and closing the door. In many cases they are recessed into the door for safety and a more pleasing appearance.

Door Handle (Outside)  The outside door handle, used for opening and closing the door. In most cases they latch and unlatch the door, but in some vehicles, especially with keyless entry systems, the handle is only the grip used to pull the door open.

Door Lock Control Module  Sends a signal from the door locking switch, keypad, or lock to the door lock solenoids to lock/unlock the doors. Normally mounted under the dash.

Door Motor (Power Slider/Tailgate, Van)  The motor mounted in the door or tailgate that opens and closes the door. This option is very useful for people with handicaps, or people who often load vehicles by themselves.

Door Switch  Senses whether or not the door is closed and triggers an alarm inside the vehicle. The door switch is normally either on the front inside face of the door, or inside the frame at the front of the door.

Door Vent Glass (Front)  One of the smaller front door windowpanes. Vent window glasses are normally triangular and mounted in front of the main door window.

Door Vent Glass (Rear)  One of the smaller rear door windowpanes. Vent window glasses are normally triangular and mounted in front of the main door window.

Door Vent Glass Regulator (Front)  The lever and gear assembly inside the door that actually moves the window up or down, used with hand-crank windows.

Door Window Control Module  Controls the raising and lowering of the door windows from driver and passenger input. Normally located underneath the dash.

Door Window Motor (Front)  Front door window actuating motor, it's normally located inside the door.

Door Window Motor (Rear)  Rear door window actuating motor, it's normally located inside the door.

Door Window Regulator (Front)  The lever and gear assembly inside the door that actually moves the window up or down, used with hand-crank windows.

Door Window Regulator (Rear)  The lever and gear assembly inside the door that actually moves the window up or down, used with hand-crank windows.

Drive Shaft (Front)  The tubular metal shaft that runs from the transfer case to the front axle on four-wheel drive vehicles.

Drive Shaft (Rear)  The long tubular shaft that runs from the back of the transmission to the rear axle on rear wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles.

Driving Light  The Headlights. Not to be confused with anti-fog lights, the headlights are the large, clear "main" lamps on the front of the vehicle, whereas anti-fog lights are normally smaller and located on the bumper or in the bumper cover.
