Oil Pan (Engine) Located on the bottom center of the engine, the oil pan holds all of the oil for the engine, and is also where the oil drain plug is located. The oil pan, while strong, can be damaged easily by driving over curbs, off-road obstacles, etc. |
Oil Pan (Transmission) Located on the bottom of an automatic transmission, the transmission oil pan serves as the storage area for the transmission fluid, and is where the Transmission oil drain plug is located. |
Oil Pump The oil pump is located inside the engine, and is used to pressurize and circulate the engine oil throughout the engine. On some cars, the shaft that drives the oil pump also drives the distributor. |
