Park light  The lights on the corners of a vehicle, normally amber, that illuminate when the headlight switch is partially activated (headlights off). Also known as marker lights.

Pickup Bed  The open portion of the pickup body, behind the cab, used for carrying large loads that don't fit in the passenger compartment.

Pickup Cap/Topper  Normally an aftermarket cover for a pickup bed, it provides a raised, covered, lockable area for storage of easily damaged or pilferable cargo.

Piston  Pistons are the cylindrically shaped parts inside the engine that provide for compression of the fuel air mixture and removal of the exhaust gases. They move up and down inside the engine as the engine runs. There are as many pistons in an engine as there are cylinders.

Power Steering Box  The power steering box is the actual steering mechanism on a vehicle with power steering. It is a heavy metal case containing the steering gears, and can be found under the hood, at the end of the steering shaft, directly in front of the driver.

Power Steering Control Module  The brain behind electrically operated power-assisted steering systems. Very new, it is seeing limited usage but should become more popular. The control module takes in sensor readings of vehicle speed and steering wheel position and uses that information to adjust the steering units rate of turn and force.

Power Steering Control Valve  Is mounted at the end of the steering shaft under that hood, and directs the flow of power steering fluid to the power steering control unit in accordance with the position of the steering wheel.

Power Steering Pump  Most often located at the front of the engine and driven by a belt, the power steering pump provides fluid under pressure to the power steering box to assist in turning.

Proportioning Valve (Brake)  The proportioning valve is normally located in the vicinity of the master cylinder, and divides the brake fluid pressure between the front and rear brakes to prevent rear wheel skid. Front brakes always need more pressure than the rear brakes due to the fact that the vehicle will "lean" forward under braking conditions, which applies more weight to the front end and less to the rear.
